Belmont University is thrilled to have been selected as the site for the 2008 Presidential Town Hall Debate. It is a privilege for us to host this historic event.
The debates are primarily intended for the television viewing audience. Belmont’s role is as venue for the Democratic Party candidate (and campaign staff), the Republican Party candidate (and campaign staff), the media and the organizer (the Commission on Presidential Debates).
The academic, programmatic and organizational opportunities the debate will offer Belmont students throughout the year will provide an invaluable, once-in-a-lifetime experience. They will be given priority for any tickets that might be made available to the university.
Fall Break – originally scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 16 and Friday, Oc. 17 – will be moved to Monday, Oct. 6 – Wednesday, Oct. 8, the days around the Town Hall Debate. This change was deemed necessary because of the spaces required for the event. No classes will be held during these three days, with the exception of Wednesday evening classes that will be held as scheduled. We are in the process of considering how we will make up the extra MWF class that will be lost due to the extension of Fall Break to three days.
Please visit the Commission on Presidential Debates’ Web site at www.debates.org for information on the credentialing process for media at the Town Hall Presidential Debate at Belmont University on October 7, 2008. Rate card information from Belmont will be made available soon. Check this site often for updates.
We also hope you will participate in many of the programs and events we have scheduled in anticipation of the debate. Please click here for a schedule of upcoming events.
